'Right to Dream' Academy reaches Premier Cup quarter-finals

Accra, Aug. 6, GNA - 'Right to Dream' Academy, Ghana's representatives at the ongoing Manchester United Premier Cup (MUPC) have advanced to the quarter-finals stage.

The Ghanaian team beat MTK Hungaria FC of Hungary 2-0 and Atlas FC of Mexico by a similar margin of 2-0 on day two of the Championship on Thursday in Manchester, England.

On Wednesday, the Dawu-based soccer academy opened their account with a 5-0 drubbing of Salgaocar SC of India before settling for a one all draw with the U-15 side of German side Werder Bremen. Right to Dream finished as winners of Group B on 10 points same as Werder Bremen but on superior goals with Atlas FC, MTK Hungaria FC and Salgaocar in that order on three, three and zero points respectively. Information gathered by GNA Sports indicates that the quarter-final opponents of the Ghanaian side will be determined after the final round matches of the group phase later on Thursday. The MUPC is the biggest Under-15 football tournament in the World and has produced some of the famous football talents since its inception in 1993.

Other participants in this year's event are West Bromwich Albion, KRC Genk, Orlando Pirates of South Africa, Changchun Yatai FC, Boin Middle School (Group A); Manchester United, Paris Saint Germain, Alta Lorna Arsenal SCC, Gamba Osaka (Group C) and Sao Paulo FC while Athletico de Madrid, AS Roma, AC Thonburi, Marconi Stallions Colo Colo are in (Group D).

The grand finale is scheduled for Old Trafford's "Theatre of Dreams" on Saturday, 8th August to be followed by the unveiling of Manchester United's first team line-up in their first open training session of the season.

The tournament which is sponsored by Manchester United and Nike has Andr=E9s Iniesta (FC Barcelona), Rafael and Fabio (Manchester United), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona), Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Carlos Tevez (Manchester City) and Fernandes Torres (Liverpool) as some of its graduates. 'Right to Dream's participation is sponsored by Telecommunications outfit, Vodafone Ghana.
