Retired Footballers Caution GFA

The Retired National Footballers Association of Ghana (RENFAG) has cautioned the premium football body in the country Ghana Football Association (GFA) against any hasty decision to appoint a new coach for the senior national team, Black Stars.

A press statement signed by the association’s Public Relation Officer and ex-Black Star player Willy Klutse states “We the members of RENFAG, would like to advise the GFA not to be in haste in appointing a new coach for the Black Stars be it foreign or local. We further suggest that in the interim, Coach Silas Tetteh who has been understudying ex-patriates over the years with two nation’s cup, and a world cup experience he has acquired over the years whiles the FA looks for a substantive coach for the Black Stars. On the other hands if Silas is able to produce result then, he should be given the mandate to coach the Black Stars”.

In a related development the ex-footballers advised the Football association to give the local coaches the chance to coach the junior teams and gradually progress to the senior team so as to get a back-up plan to avoid embarrassing situations where the Black Stars are almost always badly affected when our foreign coaches desert the team midstream.

The statement also called on the FA’s disciplinary committee to expedite action on its efforts to curb violence in the on-going One Touch Premier League. “RENFAG condemn in no uncertain terms the behavior of some players in the premier division by assaulting references and officials in recent matches especially, the match between Tema Youth and Real Sportive in Tema. As Retired Footballers, we suggest that, the Ghana Football Association should not hesitate in bringing the perpetrators to book in order to prevent others from repeating the same action in the up-coming matches”.
