Referee saved from assault by supporters

Cape Coast, Dec. 4, GNA 96 The timely intervention of the Police saved Takoradi-based referee Sylvester Agyarko from being assaulted by supporters of Dwarfs after handling the Division One league match between Cape Coast Mysterious Dwarfs and Real Tarkwa United at Cape Coast on Sunday.

The supporters of Dwarfs, who were apparently dissatisfied with the performance of referee Agyarko during the match, besieged the entrance of the gate to the referees' dressing room after the final whistle went off in an attempt to vent their anger on the referee for the defeat of their Club.

Police personnel detailed to maintain order at the stadium, however quickly went to the aid of the referee and whisked him into the dressing and later escorted him out of the stadium to board a vehicle to his station.
