Referee petitions CHRAJ

Akim Oda, Jan. 30, GNA - A football referee in the Birim South District, Mr Peter Brown, has petitioned the Commission on Human Right and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to help him claim compensation from the Akim Swedru Circuit Court.

Mr Brown, who is also a teacher at the Akim Yankomanse Zion Primary School, said the compensation was as a result of injuries he sustained when he was brutally assaulted at Akim Aperade while officiating a local football match.

Mr Brown attached a medical report to his petition and said during the basic school's sports festival at Akim Aperade on November 20, last year, he was appointed to officiate in a football match between Aperade Local Authority (L/A) JSS and Akim Akenkansu Islamic JSS.

He said later in the game when Akim Akenkansu Islamic JSS scored a clean goal and he blew the whistle for the re-start of the game, two supporters of Akim Aperade L/A JSS rushed on him, pushed him to the ground and started assaulting him until he was rescued by some fellow teachers.

Mr Brown said he sustained injuries and that his shirt was torn in the process.

He said he reported the case to the Akim Aperade police and the culprits were arrested and arraigned at the Akim Swedru Circuit Court. The suspects, he said, pleaded guilty and they were each fined one million cedis "but strangely, the court refused to give him any compensation and said the whole amount would be paid to government chest."
