Referee Wellington loses elections

An attempt by soon-to-be retired FIFA Referee Joseph Wellington to take over the chairmanship of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) failed when incumbent R.O. Laryea beat him at the elections held at Ho in the Volta Region.

Wellington polled only five of the 30 votes cast while the incumbent, Laryea, snatched the remaining 25 votes.

The association elected a new vice Chairman, Alhaji J. B. Yakubu who polled 18 votes out of 30, while his closest pal; E. K. Asante could only manage seven votes.

Mr. Godsway Glah was returned unopposed as General Secretary and J. A. Mensah had 18 votes to be elected as Deputy General Secretary.

The post of treasurer went to C. W. Okai who was the overwhelming favourite before the election. He won 26 of the 30 votes to beat Ebenezer Ferguson.

The closest contest was the race for the post of the National Instructor. J. K Boateng deposed incumbent A. P. Agbovi with a difference of two votes. Boateng had 16 votes while Agbovi managed 14. S. K. Antwi was returned unopposed as Deputy National Instructor.

The first and second auditors, A. P. Sowah and A. K. Quartey were also returned unopposed.
