Referee Lamptey leaves for South Africa for course

Accra, Oct. 18, GNA - Referee Joseph O. Lamptey, one of Ghana's leading referees has left for South Africa to participate in the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Young Talents Course. Referee Lamptey's participation was at the invitation of CAF, as a follow-up to participating in a similar course two years ago. The course which is scheduled for October 19-25 is to expose the participants to new techniques in the game as well as other revised rules and regulations.

Information gathered by GNA Sports indicates that the course forms part of the Confederation's efforts towards improving upon the level of refereeing on the continent. The Referee who is an Immigration Officer has been one of the most active referees on the continent this year having handled eight international matches.

He has so far handled four World Cup qualifiers, three Confederation Cup matches and one CAF Champions League match. Referee Lamptey is participating in the course together with fellow Ghanaian Salifu Malik. 18 Oct. 08
