RTU is broke - Munkaila

Chairman of the Northern Regional Football Association, Alhaji Adam Munkaila, has told Citi Sports that a huge lack of funds is the main reason behind the current poor fortunes of Real Tamale United in the ongoing Glo Premier League.

“Well, it’s true that RTU is not doing too well but the bottom line is that the team has no money and there is nothing more to the issue. The club cannot fulfill its obligations to the players and cannot also prepare adequately for matches.”

The club’s finances took a huge hit after agricultural input making firm, Wienco, withdrew its sponsorship three years ago and a new sponsor has still not been found but Alhaji Munkaila believes that with an injection of funds, RTU can possibly beat the drop.

“Looking at the number of games left in the second round, if RTU gets adequate sponsorship, I believe they can still survive.”

Alhaji Munkaila added that the poor behaviour of the team’s fans has also put a strain on the finances of the team because playing away from Tamale in the event of a home ban would effectively incur more costs for the cash-strapped team.

In October 2012, the team was handed a six-match home ban and fined GHC 5,000 for unruly fan behaviour.

RTU is yet to win a game this season after seventeen match days and is rooted to the bottom of the league log with five points from five draws and twelve defeats.
