Queens poised to get there

Owvein, Delta State, Nov 6, GNA 96 Ghana's Black Queens are poised to force a bitter pill down the throat of the Bayana Bayana of South Africa when the two teams lock horns in an envisaged crucial battle at the ongoing Africa Women Championship (AWC) semi final duel at the Oghara Stadium on Tuesday.

The Queens must win the game to pick up one of the two slots to qualify for the next FIFA World Cup scheduled for the Republic of China in 2007.

Having gotten to this stage by leading their group with nine points, the Ghanaians, tipped among the favourites to win the biannual competition, are expected to go all out for that crucial win against the tough-talking South Africans.

The Queens' enter this game riding high on the back of their 3-1 convincing win over their opponents when they met in the opening match of the last event held in South Africa and with the hope of repeating the dose after 90 minutes of expected action.

Coach Isaac Paha who will be welcoming back experienced defender, Yaa Avoe into his set up is expected to keep faith in the rear of Mavis Danso, Avoe, Olivia Amoako and Aminatu Ibrahim who had fared so well in the last three games.

The defence even though are yet to gel have the clout to stand the test of time against the skilful South Africans who have won many over with their strength and temperament so far.

The team is not expected to see any changes in the midfield trio of skipper Adjoa Bayor, Florence Okoe and Sheila Okine. Both Okoe and Bayor were among the team that defeated the South Africans at their backyard in 2004 and are motivated to repeat that historic feat tomorrow.

Like the Ghanaians, the South Africans have also conceded two goals and scored six times in three games and seem to have equal strength.

Both teams are good passers of the ball and lovers of flair and their current performance will undisputedly produce a beautiful game. With revenge on the mind of the Bayana Bayana, the Queens are rather focusing on how to grab that vital slot to enable them make a third appearance at the World Cup and also wrestle power from the Super Falcons of Nigeria.

The winner of the encounter meets the victor in the other semi final match involving Nigeria and Cameroon and like creative genius, Bayor summed it up that their clarion cry still remains 91Now or Never'.

The South African coach, Augustine Makalakalane has already described the Queens as 91dimensional and predictable' 96 an assertion that the players are not taking kindly and have therefore vowed to force their opponents eat humble pie. The South African defenders will surely have their sight on sensational finisher, Anita Amankwaa after their coach has underscored the need to police the 17-year old player and with the battle lines drawn, only goal(s) can separate the two sides so much abound with skills.

Coach Paha is similarly expected to start Ramunatu Tahiru and Doreen Awuah at the flanks to provide those crucial supplies that will enable Amankwaa notch in the goals that will give the team a third appearance at the grand finale.

The Queens has made it to the finals twice in the history of the competition which is in its fifth edition. Both were the two previous editions held here in Nigeria and are hoping to be third time lucky this time by lifting the ultimate.
