Queens face Cameroun in must-win clash

Ghana’s Black Queens could end up with yet another disappointing campaign in the African Women’s Championships as they take on Cameroon on Saturday.

Ghana have collected just a point out of a possible six after losing 1-0 to Algeria and drawing 1-1 with South Africa.

The Queens’ next opponents Cameroon have already sealed one of the semi-final slots in Group B after winning their first two matches.

Yusif Basigi’s side must beat Cameroon and hope Algeria do not win against South Africa in order to stand any chance of making it to the semi-finals.

Even if South Africa beat Algeria and Ghana win against Cameroon, the two sides will be in search of a better goal difference for the final Group B slot.

Ghana’s performances over the years keep on plummeting after group stage exits in 2008 and 2010 and a “no show” at the 2012 edition.

With the top three teams qualifying to the World Cup in Canada next year, the Black Queens’ status in global football could keep on diminishing if the miracle they need eludes them this weekend.
