Queen Bombers to fight in Egypt

Ghana has chalked many successes in sports internationally, especially in soccer and boxing. And these successes could further be enriched as Ghana participates in a debut Africa Boxing tournament for women in Cairo scheduled to take place from July 5 to 10.

In an interview with the GNA sports in Accra to find out how the country is gearing up to honour the invitation, Coach Ofori Asare, Deputy coach of the Ghana Amateur Boxing team, the Black Bombers, said even though the country has no national female team, three girls who have been very successful in their career are being prepared to participate in the maiden competition.

He named Yakor Annan Chavez, bantamweight division and from Bukom Academy, Amelley Turkson, featherweight and of the Wisdom Academy and Gifty Amanoa (the Tiger), lightweight and of Black Panthers club as those to represent the nation under the name, "the Queen Bombers".

Coach Asare said all the girls are 'already made boxers' who have tested international fights and added that "with the right motivation, they should be able to deliver".

He cited an instance in La Cote D'Ivoire, when the three girls were persuaded by Ivorian Boxing Authorities to naturalise after an immaculate display of their boxing prowess.

The coach said the girls have been preparing seriously for the past two months and express the hope that they will win medals for the country.

In separate interviews with the girls later, they expressed optimism of bring home medals
