Professionals wallop Muiscians 5-0

A select side of Ghanaian professional footballers last Saturday walloped another select side of the nation’s musicians 5-0 in a special soccer show at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra. The match failed to draw the expected large crowd and also many of the star footballers including Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Matthew Amoah and many others because of incessant rains which made even the pitch very muddy. A purported curtain raiser between the Sports Callers Association of Ghana and the national Amputees football team also failed to come on.

But the few spectators present at the Stadium were never disappointed as the footballers captained by John Paintsil and featuring the likes of Laryea Kingston, Aziz Ansah, Ahmed Barruso, Asamoah and Baffour Gyan thrilled with sumptuous skills that left the musicians chasing their shadows. The eventual 5-0 spanking was just a save-facing scoreline for the musicians who turned up in their numbers among them Obuor, Kwaw Kesse the Abodam Man, Lord Kenya, Samini, KK Fosu, Slim Buster and Asem.

Organised by Gold Stars Sports, the event has become an annual is affair aimed at raising funds to support the needy in the society. Co-sponsored by UT Financial Services, UT Bank Limited, Lucozade Sport and Vita Milk, this is the third year in succession it has taken place. The professional footballers won the maiden edition 6-0 at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman and followed it with a 6-2 whitewash of the musicians in last year’s match at the El-Wak Park.
