Private radio station secures rights to broadcast English Premier League

Accra, Aug. 14, GNA - City FM, an Accra based private radio station has secured the rights to broadcast the Barclays English Premier League (EPL) live on its network.

This is the second time the radio station has secured the right to embark on live broadcast of the (EPL) after successfully running a similar programme last soccer season. Mr Erasmus Quao, an official of City FM who announced this at a press conference in Accra, said the decision to broadcast the match live on their network is to make the EPL more convenient and accessible to soccer fans in the country.

He said the broadcast of the Matches is also an effort to give an estimated 1.2 million people who tune in to City FM unadulterated commentary replete with expert opinions and accurate descriptions. Mr Quao said listeners will have the opportunity to listen to all the big players, managers and club officials who speak to big issues that makes the news in the competition.

He said that the broadcast comes with no monthly bills or subscription fees as listeners in all parts of the country on affiliate stations such as the Boss FM in Kumasi and Skyy Power FM in Takoradi. Mr Quao said soccer fans will also be fed with classy commentaries from BBC's legend Alan Green and Martin Tyler of Sky TV with expert analysis from former England coach Graham Taylor. He added that the management of the station has decided to include a local fan among the studio panellists as part of efforts to make the programme more interactive.
