Portugal Ends Ghana's Dream

The frees-coring Ghanaian team at the on-going Homeless World Cup are poised to make history as the first African country to win the trophy.Ghana started their quest with a hard won victory against the host nation Italy.It was the Ghanaians who made their intensions clear to carry the day after the blast of the refrees whistle by firing the first shot at goal. It was a match characterised by rough play from both sides since both teams were not ready for a defeat.But the more determined Ghanaian side whose attack is spear-headed by Dennis Adjei Yeboah and Richard Ono Kofi (the captain of the side) played as if their whole lifes depended on the match attacked and fired from all angles to win their opening match by six goals to four to the amasement of the spares crowd gathered at the arena vicica.Not even the presence of the legendary Arigo Sachi who graced the occasion could save the Italians from defeat.

At the end of the match Ghana's Dennis Adjei Yeboah was adgered the man of the day.A delighted Adjei Yeboah who appeared in all the front pages of the daily sports news papers the following day said "am glad the organizers chose me as the man of the match and i dedicate my award to all the homeless around the world and my team, i thank u all".

Day two of the tournament saw Ghana performing abysmally was forced to concede defeat at the hands of Mexico by ten goals to five and losing again to Romania on penalties after scoring four goals apiece during regulation time.Team Nigeria who earlier have won all their two matches and saddened by Ghana's defeat led by their team manager Yomi Kuku came to encourage their Ghanaian counterparts at the player's village.

Day three of tournament was not different from day one for the Ghanaian fans.They had alot to cheer about.Team Ghana bounced back to defeat luxemburg and South Africa by 7-4 and 7-3 respectively,then demolishing Philipines by 11goals to 3 before completing the demolishing exercise with Germany Team Ghana lost again to Ireland by three to five on day four before rediscovering their winnnig formula to beat Lithuania and Holland to reach the quater-finals.

A date with Portugal was the toughest match Ghana had to play .Team Ghana combining experience and youthful exuberance found Portugal a hard nut to crack.The resilient Portuguese team matched the Ghanaian team boot for boot and repulsed all attack to end the fist half barren. Portugal then held Ghana to a pulsating 3-3 draw at the end of the final whistle to send the game into penalties.Portugal ends Ghana's dream of making history as the first African country to win the trophy by winning the penalty shoot outs.Nigeria remains in strong contention to lift the ultimate after making a light work on Poland in the other quarter-final match.
