Ghana defender John Paintsil has backed Maritzburg United to redeem themselves from their poor campaign so far in the new year.

The Team of Choice are currently languishing at the bottom of the PSL table after 11 games.

Maritzburg United showed a lot of promise last season when they finished 8th to play in the post-season MTN8 tournament.

But the club has struggled this term, resulting in the departure of coach Clive Barker after just three months in charge.

But their dependable Ghanaian full-back is backing the side to recover from their wobbly start to the campaign to turn things around in 2016.

“Last season we did well to get to the MTN8 competition but this year, we’ve started a bit sloppy,” he said.

“But this is not the position we belong, and I am sure in the New Year, in 2016, things will get better for us.”
