Owusu seals Germinal Beerschot contract

Ghanaian midfielder Daniel Owusu has joined Belgian side Germinal Beerschot on a three-year contract.

The 18-year-old impressed during trials with Fulham but was unable to secure a work permit to enable him play in England.

The Premiership side opted to send him to their partnership club Beerschot to allow him to play competitive football and continue with his development.

Owusu, who can also play in the midfield, will return to England if he gains a Belgian passport in four years.

He is the Ghanaian second player Fulham has sent to Germinal Beerschot because of work permit problems.

Midfielder King Osei Gyan joined the Belgian club earlier this year in a similar deal.

Both players were spotted by Fulham from the burgeoning academy in Accra called the Right to Dream.

It was established by Manchester United's African scout Tom Vernon.

Vernon, a Brit, is a former coach of Accra Great Olympics.
