Owusu's Cup Cliper

TheVoice (London)-- Groin injury scuppers Ghanaian star's hopes of glory

Brentford forward Lloyd Owusu knows only to well the heartache England striker Wayne Rooney is experiencing right now.

Owusu could also miss out on next months World Cup after a limping out of the recent international game between Ghana and German club Stuttgart following an injury to his groin.

The injury will keep Owusu out of the game for between six to eight weeks and by his own admission his dream is over, 'it's a wrap'.

He told the Voice of Sport: "It was a killer blow. I was enjoying the game and it happened early on, so it was devastating.

"Things have gone well with Brentford this season, we are doing well in the league and then to get involved with the Black Stars with a chance of going to the World Cup that is what dreams are made of.

"But it looks like its not going to be the case so I have to keep my spirits up and keep on going. Everyone has been quality, the Ghana FA rang me a couple of days after and wished me all the best and said there may be a possibility of me coming to a few games out there. So everyone has kept a look out for me as they can imagine how I am feeling."

Owusu, 29, was also looking forward to playing in Ghana's eagerly awaited pre World Cup friendly against Jamaica, which takes place at Leicester City's Walkers Stadium on May 29.

It's a game everyone who is affiliated with either country will want to attend and a rare chance to glimpse the Black Stars prior to the African nation embarking on their first World Cup finals.

He said: "Its going to be great game. They're two traditional countries with great culture behind both. The atmosphere is going to be amazing. It will be surreal with plenty of music and drums. It will be a tough game.

"The Jamaican's have a lot of good players, some playing in the Premiership and the lower leagues but then again so have Ghana and if they have their full squad and play their strongest team with the likes of Stephen Appiah and Michael Essien, they have a good chance."

Of Ghana's chances in the World Cup however, Owusu was more reserved in his predictions. He said: "At the end of the day we are in the group of death as they say. But we are an unknown quantity and the boys will go there and have a bit of fun.

"That might sound a bit funny because obviously they have a serious job to do, but they have to take on board all aspects and make the most of the opportunity."
