Owusu-Ansah Sues "Sir" Jones

Acting GFA chairman Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah is seeking damages from ex-natioanl team coach Cecil Jones Attuquayefio for defamation in a newspaper article.

The source of Owusu-Ansah's action is a publication in the April 21 edition of The Ghanaian Times, entitled "Owusu-Ansah is a liar".

Hearts of Oak's former Black Stars coach reportedly described the complainant in the publication as "a liar and an apprentice soccer administrator".

Attuquayefio, who was reacting to his dismissal as national coach in the article, was also quoted as saying, amongst other things, that "Mr Owusu-Ansah is a lawyer, but I am surprised at his lies - the man is a damned liar".

According to Owusu-Ansah's solicitors, the publication, which was aired on local radio stations, has damaged his reputation and lowered his esteem in the eyes of the public, especially since it was carried by the BBC who have worldwide coverage.

They claimed Attuquayefio's comments described the acting FA chairman as a dishonest man who could not be trusted because he had no respect for the truth.

ATTUQUAYEFIO'S OUTBURST over his controversial dismissal as the national coach is considered to be unjustified and having no basis.

Owusu-Ansah has therefore issued a seven-day ultimatum for Attuquayefio to disclaim the publication, giving the retraction equal publicity.

He has also been asked to offer an apology and pay appropriate compensation to the complainant within the ultimatum or face legal proceedings.
