Otumfuo visits players

The Life Patron and Owner of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has charged players of the club to march into the battle with Mont Cameroon with victory on their minds.

The Asantehene adviced the players to make sure they play to the whistle since followers of the club are looking forward to a resounding victory over the Cameroonians.

Otumfuo said this when he paid a surprise visit to the team’s training grounds last Wednesday morning to spur his boys onto victory.

The Asantehene who presented some Adidas brand sports bags, track suits and T-shirts to the team took time to hold a tete-?-tete with individual players while taking it easy in his posh Chevrolet.

He reiterated his assertion that Kotoko is a national institution that transcends tribalism, and as such nobody should think he is bigger than the club. He noted that the current rise in the fortunes of the club is just shadows of great things to happen to the club this year.

Otumfuo also took the opportunity to console midfield general, Stephen Oduro whose mother died earlier in the week. The player returned the Asantehene’s words of consolation with the promise to emerge victorious, come what may.

He promised the players a special package if they emerge victorious on Sunday. “Your supporters are looking forward to a great performance that should result in victory on Sunday.

“As you go into the battle, make sure you do us all proud by winning the match”, Otumfuo said. He called on all supporters of the club to lend great support to the IMC for them to be able to deliver the goods.

Manhyia, he revealed will also throw its weight behind the club as it strives to revisit the days of yore when the name Kotoko left opponents in trepidation and awe. His love for the club and the quest to see it develop, Otumfuo noted, urged him to take the steps that culminated in the appointment of an IMC that in his opinion has done creditably well.

While declaring his full support to the club in all ways, Otumfuo called on all supporters to also lend their unflagging support to the players, encourage them when the going gets tough for them, and not hurl insults at them.

Otumfuo gave the team his blessing before taking leave of them to continue their preparations for the trip to Cameroon.

*In order to boost the morale of the players, a former player of the team, George Kennedy who is also the Local Representative of American kits company, Kendis? last Wednesday presented an assortment of sports equipment to the team.

The equipment includes 30 bibs, 22 T-shirts, 15 footballs, track suits and sports bags.
