Otumfuo Cup will not affect SWAG Cup Match 96 SWAG

Accra, Aug. 24, GNA - The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has stated that Sunday's second leg match of the SWAG/SIC H.P. Nyemitei Cup match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Obuasi Ashantigold at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra, would not affect the Otumfuo Invitational Cup in Kumasi.

A statement signed by William Ezah, acting General Secretary of SWAG said, even though both Hearts and Ashgold are participating in the Otumfuo Cup, the two Clubs have given firm commitment to their participation in the SWAG Cup Match on Sunday, August 29 as well.

It said based on discussions held with the two Clubs, they are prepared to participate in the game on Sunday, with all their regular players who played in the recent Top Four Tournament.

It added that the Association was the first to book August 29 for the second leg with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and will not want to disappoint the loyal followers of the game and are therefore determined to execute it to the letter.

The statement called on all soccer fans in Accra to be at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra to witness what has been described in soccer circles as "The Third World War" as the two sides have already met on two occasions in the just ended Top Four Tourney with Hearts recording a double over the Miners.

It said the match will determine whether Hearts will confirm their superiority over Ashgold or the later will redeem their image by avenging the earlier losses.

Hearts held Ashgold to a goalless drawn game in the first leg at the Len Clay Stadium, Obuasi barely a month ago and beat the Obuasi lads in a Top Four encounter last Sunday to lift the trophy at stake.
