Osam Duodu Names 18-man Squad.

Fred Osam-Duodu, who was named the new coach of Ghana last week has invited 18 home-based players for the World Cup qualifier against Sierra Leone in Freetown on May 6.

After taking over from the dismissed Jones Attuquayefio, Osam-Duodu said that some of the foreign-based players will be named for the match.

Attuquayefio had dropped all the foreign-based players for two matches in the World Cup qualifier against Nigeria and the Nations Cup elimination match with Congo Democratic Republic. Stephen Appiah, who has been voted the best African player in Italy last weekend, was the only one invited for the Congo DR match.

There would be possible recalls for Black Stars skipper, Charles Akunnor and his name sake, Amoah in Austria. Turkey-based Yaw Preko, and Borrusia Dortmund's Otto Addo with Bayern Munich defender Samuel Osei Kuffuor could also be welcomed back into the side.
On the home-based players, Osam-Duodu made a few changes to the squad that played against Nigeria in match and Congo DR in Accra. Three Obuasi Goldfields players have been handed their first call-ups after watching them in a local league match between giants Obuasi Goldfields and two-time African champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
Former junior international, goalkeeper Osei-Boateng of Kotoko has been invited together with team mate and defender Godfried Yeboah. Goldfields striker Isaac Boakye is the other has also been invited to earn his first cap.
But the side is still dominated by Hearts of Oak, who have 10 players in the team.
Ghana defeated Sierra Leone 5-0 in Accra to open their World Cup campaign with a bang under Italian coach, Giusseppe Dossena only weeks before his contract expired and was not renewed.
Ghana are second from bottom in group B with four points and would have a lot of catching up to do to overtake Liberia at the top with four matches left for the Black Stars.
