Olympiakos & Okwawu disagree over friendly

MR Joseph Ade Coker, President of A. C. Olympiakos, a first division club based at Oda, on Tuesday expressed regret at Okwawu United?s failure to honour a friendly encounter between the two clubs at the Oda Sports Stadium last Monday.

The match was to mark the 42nd Republic Day celebration and to prepare Olympiakos for the division one league while Okwawu were to use it to sharpen their rough edges before the second round of the premier League scheduled to kick-start on July 27.

Mr Ade Coker told the GNA Sports in Accra that his club spent a lot of money in camping and in putting other arrangements in place to host the Soccer Mountaineers, adding ?Okwawu owe Olympiakos an apology?.

However, Dr Felix Frimpong, Chairman of Okwawu, told the GNA in a telephone interview that Mr Ade Coker made contacts with him (Frimpong) but nothing concrete was agreed on.

He said normally during such matches, the organising team would have to agree on a fee for the visiting team but ?in this case nothing like that happened?. Dr Frimpong said the team do not have their own means of transport and ?such things ought to be done well in advance, coupled with the fact that most of the players are on holidays, thus making it a bit risky to travelling to Oda.

Dr Frimpong, however, said he was sorry for the communication gap and expressed the hope that such a thing will not recur.
