Okwawu citizens asked to support Okwawu United

Accra, Jan 14, GNA - Kwahu Citizens have been urged to unite and give their moral and financial support towards the development of the Okwawu United Sporting Club to enable it regain its past glory as one of the best clubs in the country.

Mr Yaw Asare, General Secretary of the Club who made the appeal at a news conference in Accra on Wednesday said unity plays a very important role in the development of every club, society or organization without which there cannot be any positive transformation and development.

He said it was regrettable and disappointing that Traditional authorities and businessmen from the Kwahu area have neglected the once vibrant traditional Club in the area to its demise and to loose its popularity and venom among soccer elites in the country. "What is Okwawuman and the traditional chiefs doing to unite and deliver the Club we cherish so much from this mess?, he questioned, adding that "the time has once again for our businessmen and women to harness their abundant resources and business acumen for the betterment of the club. Mr Asare said some of the difficulties facing by the Club include lack of kits and equipment, a Club Secretariat and a bus as well as renovation of the deteriorated club house. He said management of the club would not in any way attempt to undermine any person or group of persons just to score personal points but to bring the situation to the fore of the citizens and solicit their support. Mr Asare appealed to Dasebre Akuamoah Boateng, Patron of the Club and Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area to use his good offices to unite the citizens and support the club to enable it regain its premiership status. He also appealed to corporate bodies and institutions to lend their support and sponsor the resuscitation of the Club. Okwawu United was relegated to the Division One in 2005. 14 Jan. 09
