Okrakwadwo wins special soccer tournament

Okrakwadwo(Eastern Region) - Okrakwadwo F/C beat Koforidua- based Bafana bafana F/C 1-0 in the finals to lift the cup at stake a special soccer tournament at Okrakwadwo near Adukrom-Akuaoem, as part of activities organised by Uncle Stevens Progressive Youth Club, to educate the youth on HIV/AIDS as well as drug abuse last Friday.

Koforidua Magazine F/C who lost 2-3 to Bafanabafana was adjudged the best losers and presented with the cup for the third place. Anthony Gyampoh, former Akuapem North District Chief Executive, who donated the cups for the tournament, called on the youth not to allow poverty to lead them into activities which would make them contract the HIV virus.

He urged the youth to abstain from premarital sex and drug abuse to protect themselves against the disease. Gyampoh called on the government to provide more resources to the District Assemblies to help them develop facilities at the local levels to promote sports.

Thomas McCarthy, Superintendent of Police at the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters, advised the youth to support the police in the enforcement of the law for their own protection and warned that any attempt to obstruct the police in their duties would amount to aiding and abetting criminals.
