Okrah: Merriekh will win Caf Champions League

Al Merriekh forward Augustine Okrah believes they will qualify to the semi-finals of the Caf Champions League and subsequently win the title after posting a 2-0 defeat to 10-man Moroccan side E.S Setif at the Merriekh Stadium in Group B on Sunday.

The 21-year-old scored his debut goal in the competition in added time after Alaedin Yousif Hado had opened the scoring from the spot on 41st minute for the Sudanese giants, to record a remarkable victory after a poor start to the campaign.

Merriekh, despite the win, are second on the log with seven points, five behind USM Algiers, who have already booked their place in the semi-finals. However, Okrah insists they will join the North African team as runners-up, with two more matches to end the group stage.

“The road is almost clear for us to make a big impact this season,” Okrah told Goal.

“We're now one victory away from qualifying into the semi-finals with two matches remaining. USM Algiers have already booked their place but I believe we will qualify with them and the title dream will be achieved. Merriekh will be in the finals and we will definitely win the title,” he added.

Okrah also admitted he was full of joy after scoring his debut goal in the Caf Champions League after several attempts. He believes he will score more goals in the campaign.

“It was all joy to score such a decisive goal. I've played with Kotoko, Liberty Professionals and Bechem United but did not have the opportunity to play in the Caf Champions League, left alone to score. I strongly believe that one or two more goals will follow,” he said.

Okrah, who won Ghana Premier League's best player and top scorer awards last season, has scored seven goals and provided five assists in the Sudan Premier League this term.
