OPINION: In Honour Of Lawton

The late Lawton Ackah-Yensu was remembered last Monday with the donation of sports kit worth C1 billion towards the advancement of football in Ghana.

The donation was presented to Ghana by the family of the late Mr. Ackah- Yensu and Adam Greenberger, a good friend of the family, and received by Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Chief of Staff and Minister for Governmental Affairs. The Chief of Staff thanked the Ackah-Yensu family and Mr. Greenberger for their generosity. He recounted the leading role Mr. Ackah-Yensu played in the development of sports in Ghana, especially in sports commentary and commentating.

Mr. Adam told The Accra Mail that the donation was made up of an assortment of sporting goods, injury related supplies and miscellaneous medical supplies a quarter of which will go to Accra Hearts of Oak, and the rest to the Sports Council to share between the different national teams. They also promised to donate at a later date, a trophy, to which the Chief of Staff replied that he would wish to see the trophy competed for not by the big teams but teams at the colts level so as to encourage the development of that sector.

The ceremony was attended by the Ackah-Yensu family, including his widow, officials from the Sports Council and senior members of the Hearts of Oak Management.
