O'Neill to explore Gyan recall

New Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill will look into a possible early recall for Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan as he looks to solve the club's goalscoring problem.

Gyan is currently on a year's loan at Al Ain in the USE on a mega -ich loan deal that was worth £6m to the club.

But with Sunderland struggling for goals, O'Neill says every player at the club starts on a new slate, including Gyan, and he will see whether there are clauses in the deal that allows for an early return for the striker.

He said: "It's something I'll address. I have to find out exactly where we stand on that. His position will definitely be looked at."

Gyan joined Sunderland in a record £13million deal from Stade Rennes in the summer of 2010 and went on to score 11 League goals in 25 games.

But he walked in September this year in a move that angered former Sunderland manager Steve Bruce so much that he suggested Gyan would never play for the club again.
