Nyantakyi will chair his first meeting

Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi will chair his first meeting as the chariman of the Caf Ethics Committee on Saturday.

The 43-year-old administrator was handed one of the most influential committees in the continental body about three months ago.

The meeting in the Egyptian capital on Saturday will be the first with his committee members since he was handed the post.

Nyantakyi, who is a member of the CAF Executive Committee, heads the five-member Standing Committee which has Thierry Kamach as the vice.

The other members are Mohamed S. Medani, Abdou Sani and Ghebremariam Yemane. Due to his efficiency he has also been named to work with the Africa Cup of Nations and Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) organising committees. Apart from these three committees, Nyantakyi is already on the executive committee after winning an election in Sudan early this year.

Ghana’s football chief has been handed the huge task leading the Ethics Committee at a time when Africa is facing one of its biggest challenges with ethics.

Several CAF executive members, including Amos Adamu of Nigeria, Amadou Diakite of Mali and Slim Aloulou of Tunisia, were banned by Fifa’s Ethics Committee last year over various issues.

Egyptian executive committee member of CAF, Hani Abou Rida, has also been referred to FIFA’s Ethics Committee over his links to the banned Mohammed Bin Hammam.

Nyantakyi is expected, along with his committee members, to provide guidelines on how things must be done right and fairly within the game in Africa. He will also face some tricky decisions when similar issues come up in future. His remit also includes Fair Play, which means he and his colleagues on the committee must come up with measures to maintain high levels of fair play in Africa.
