Nyantakyi's greed led to his downfall - JE Sarpong

Former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko coach J.E Sarpong insists that former Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi deserves the lifetime ban handed him by Fifa this week.

Nyantakyi, 49, was found guilty of violating three Fifa codes of ethics including bribery and corruption, commission, as well as conflict of interest following an undercover investigative documentary by Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in June.

"Kwesi Nyantakyi deserves everything that has happened to him. It should serve as a lesson to everyone in football leadership because position isn't your possession," Sarpong told Silver FM.

"Nyantakyi did his best for the country's football development. He also helped us to qualify for three consecutive Fifa World Cup but greediness, over ambition and the hypocrisy on his part brought him from grace to rags.

"I've seen a lot of people trying to sympathize with him but I believe it is not appropriate. Nobody should shed crocodile tears because he has been served what he deserves," he added.

Nyantakyi, however, has revealed plans to contest the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
