Nyantakyi primed for CAF Presidency in 2017

Footy-ghana.com understands that the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi is indeed seen by major power brokers in African football as a main contender for the presidency of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) if current president Issa Hayatou steps down in a few years’ time.

It would be recalled that a few months ago, footy-ghana.com broke the story on Nyantakyi’s potential for the position.

At the time, a website sought to rubbish the story with quotes from Nyantakyi that he hadn’t thought that far about such an ambition.

Footy-ghana.com can however authoritatively confirm that the GFA President has come around to the idea of winning Africa’s topmost football job in 2017, when it is anticipated that Hayatou would no longer stand for elections.

Nyantakyi has won praise for his work as the Chairman of CAF’s Ethics Committee and as a CAF Executive member.

Footy-ghana.com has learnt that whilst Nyantakyi would not publicly admit his ambitions for the position, following words of encouragement from his colleagues within CAF, he is now seriously considering a run for the CAF Presidency in five years’ time.
