Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi could contest one of Africa’s slots on the new FIFA Council, Footballghana.com has reported.

Nyantakyi, a member of the CAF Executive Committee is expected to confirm his candidature for elections onto the FIFA Council in accordance with the provisions of article 18.5 of the CAF Statutes in the coming days.

Many have tipped Nyantakyi who has been exceptional as Ghana FA boss since assuming office in 2005 for the top job.

CAF communicated on Wednesday that the election of two African additional members to the FIFA Council for the transitional period 30 September 2016 to 16 March 2017 will be conducted on 29 September 2016.

In this regard, CAF Secretary General Hicham El Amrani, on Wednesday, 1 June 2016 dispatched a circular to all 54 Member Associations affiliated to CAF, to confirm the holding of the Extraordinary General Meeting whose formal agenda will be communicated to the associations by 14 August 2016, in conformity with the provisions of article 17.13 of the CAF Statutes.

The circular also cited 30 June 2016, three months prior to the elections for the submission of candidatures for elections onto the FIFA Council in accordance with the provisions of article 18.5 of the CAF Statutes.

“The postal stamp of Cairo Post office will be taken as evidence for the candidatures sent. The candidacies submitted by hand, by telegram, by fax shall not be accepted” the circular mentioned.

Candidates for the FIFA Council will be subject to an integrity test in accordance with the current FIFA Statutes and Governance regulations. Under the circumstances, an adjustment has been made on the timeline that candidates must the submitted to FIFA for the integrity test.
