The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi has hailed the initiative of Professional Footballers Association (PFAG ) to insure players for the future.

The PFAG launched a program for footballers dubbed “Life After Football and Insurance Scheme” for players both home and abroad.

And Nyantakyi gave thumps up to the idea, saying “This is a laudable initiative that is worthy of the support of all of us. And I can confirm to you that after extensive discussion with the Executive Committee of the GFA, we whole-heartedly supported and approved this project,” Nyantakyi said during the launch.

“We know how useful and beneficial it will be for our players. We know it is something that has prevailed in advance football countries.

“This initiative will go a long way to provide security and confidence amongst player during our league competitions. It will also secure their future even after their playing career,” he said.

The ‘Life After Football and Insurance Scheme’ initiative will be experimented for two years, and Nyantakyi has called on the PFGA idea to ensure it is not flash on the pan.

He wants the association to explore the various avenues available so that first division, women’s and Colts football can also benefit.

“We are encouraging PFAG to explore avenues together with GFA; we can continue to pay premium for this insurance scheme so it will take care of not only premier division players but players in the first division, women’s league and Colts as well.” he said.
