Nothing wrong with Grant’s absence in Gabon – GFA

The Ghana FA vice president George Afriyie has said it was unnecessary for Black Stars coach Avram Grant to be in Gabon for the 2017 AFCON draw.

Avram Grant came under a barrage of criticism for snubbing the AFCON draw in Libreville, Gabon last Wednesday for a punditry job on SkySports.

Some pundits believe the Israeli coach should have been in Gabon to inspect the facilities the team will use during the Africa Cup of Nations.

But Afriyie insists the stadium and training facilities were not ready hence there was no need for the Coach to have travelled to Gabon.

“It wasn’t like the Coach was billed to be in Gabon and he was not there, because we were aware that the pitches were not ready for inspection. So we had scheduled another date for the Coach to travel to Gabon when the Stadium and training facilities are ready for inspections,” Afriyie told Starr Sports.
