Northern sector VALCO tourney underway

Senior Secondary Schools in Kumasi started the Northern Sector VALCO Invitational Tournament on a bright note, mauling their opponents with wide margins to send signals to the rest of the teams taking part in the competition that they would be a force to reckon with, so far as the championship is concerned.

Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School (OKESS) reduced Bechem Presbyterian Secondary to mere novices before massacring them 7-1 in the first match.

OKESS's Adjei Marfo scored a hat trick in the match. Prempeh College also sent Nandom Secondary packing with a 4-0 goal margin in the third game which soccer fans who trooped to the Kumasi Stadium to watch the future stars considered as "one way traffic".

The match between OKESS and Bechem Secondary started on a faster note with each side threatening to open the scores but it was OKESS who showed much prominence in attack and registered the first goal through Sarfo Kantanka in the 16th minute.

With their confidence boosted, OKESS put much pressure on their opponents and added two more goals through Adjei Marfo and Owusu Acheampong in the 42nd and 43rd minutes respectively.

Two minutes later, Bechem Presby reduced the tally through Richard Donko.

The joy of Bechem Presby to recover was, however, shortlived as Sarfo Kantanka who proved a thorn in the flesh of his opponents added his second personal goal in the 33rd minute.

Adjei Marfo, who also played agreat game scored two additional goals in the 53rd and 71st minutes before Owusu Ansah completed the avalanche of goals in the 78th minute.

Prempeh College also started their goal haul against Nandom Secondary through Opoku Antwi in the 12th minute.

Osei Duah Agyemang and Boakye Acheampong added their names on the score sheet with beautiful goals in the 27th and 34th minutes respectively to end the half. Two minutes before the game ended, Osei Duah Agyemang meandered his way through a cluster of defenders and planted the ball at the far corner of the net to give the fans something to cheer about.

Wenchi Secondary School also played a more determined game to beat Vittings 3-0 with goals from William Berko and Sule Abu in the 38th and 77th minutes respectively.

At the time of going to press, the match between Kumasi High School and Suhum Secondary School was still in progress.
