"No confusion in WAFU"- Adamu

(By Veronica Commey, GNA Special Correspondent in Lagos)

Lagos, May 21, GNA - Dr Amos Adamu, President of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) has played down on the supposed confusion that is alleged to have engulfed the Union's front.

"There is no confusion in WAFU. People are only agitated because there is no action.

"It is only when the action starts that you can tell if there is any confusion or not. Soon we will start playing and it will become too clear that all that people wanted was to play active football which defines our passion".

Dr Adamu described the current speculation of division among the 16-member Union as a natural phenomenon that spans from lack of competition for an outfit tasked to organize tourneys on the sub-region. The President who took over the reigns of the Union barely a month ago, said three major competitions would be organized before the end of the year and underscored his commitment towards changing the face of WAFU to make it an active body. He mentioned WAFU Cup of Nations as among the key competitions designed to assist member countries to build stronger teams capable of toppling the rest during the Confederation of African Football (CAF) organized competitions. The Nigerian said "I will resign if I am unable to do anything for WAFU in six months." About 11 out of the 16-member countries have kept faith with the new administration headed by Dr Adamu. 21 May 07
