NSC to regain Sports Complex

THE National Sports Council is to repossess its assets at the Kaneshie Sports Complex which at the moment is occupied by the National Youth Council (NYC).

The assets include the hostel and all the sports facilities at the complex.

Mr Edward Osei-Kwaku, Minister of Youth and Sports (MOYS) made this announcement yesterday during a visit to the Accra Sports Stadium to inspect the extent of work to be undertaken on the reconstruction of the North Wing of the stadium.

Mr. Osei-Kwaku, who described the Sports Complex as an embarrassment and an apology, however, said the NSC would have to raise money to renovate the dilapidated facilities at the sports complex.

The minister said while efforts are being made to relocate the offices of the NYC in the office complex attached to the ultra-modern sports hall under construction at the complex, the hostel which at present houses the NYC would be renovated and converted to its original use.

Reacting to the announcement, Dr E.O Owusu-Ansah, acting Chief Executive of the NSC, said the NSC was elated about the news and it would use all means to generate the needed income for the project.

He said the NSC was going to come out with specific programmes drawn up to raise money and also ensure that it strives to achieve quality results.
