NFA condoles Ghana FA over death of fans

THE Nigeria Football Association (NFA) has sent a condolence message to Accra, in Ghana over the death of 100 fans killed in a crowd stampede following a football match that ended in a fiasco in Accra on Wednesday.

Austin Mgbolu, NFA spokesman revealed this to reporters yesterday in Abuja that the NFA wholeheartedly sympathises with Ghana over the loss of such a huge number of people in just one match. The crisis was reportedly sparked off by Kumasi Ashanti Kotoko's fans whose team was losing in a match with the reigning African Champions league winners, Hearts of Oaks when a goal conceded by the Kotoko Ashantis was adjudged by the fans to be a no goal. Subsequently, the crisis which led to a crowd control failure ended with over one hundred people killed while another one hundred and fifty injured are currently receiving medical attention. A report had alleged that a combination of panic with the stampeding action and police arbitrary use of tear gas and barring of fleeing fans to safety contributed to the soccer tragedy.
