Sulley Muntari debuted in the Asian Champions League Group stage on Tuesday as his Saudi side Al Ittihad earned a 1-1 draw at Lokomotiv Tashkent of Uzbekistan.

The Ghana international was handed a starter role and replaced after 63 minutes at the Stadion Lokomotiv.

Al Ittihad took the lead through Gelmin Rivas on 35 minutes but the hosts raced back into the game to level with a minute to the end of regulation time.

Sardor Mirzayev scored on 89 minutes.

Muntari is one of the few players to have won the UEFA Champions League (with Inter Milan in 2010) and now playing in Asia’s flagship inter-clubs competition.

Al Ittihad are in Group A alongside Iranian side Sepahan and Al Nasr from United Arab Emirates.
