Ex-footballer and a former captain for the senior national team, the Black Stars, Charles K. Akonnor has said the Mamba's of Mozambique will not be a push-over for the Black Stars on Thursday, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Akonnor, who has won 41 caps for the Stars and has 12 goals to his credit, scored the only goal for the Stars, when they met Mozambique in the 2000 African Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Akonnor, now head coach coach of Dreams FC in an interview with GNA Sports, said the game was going to be an interesting one since both countries have a target to achieve.

“Ghana has experience in playing such matches and I believe they are in the capacity to advance if they don’t underestimate Mozambique. I have watched Mozambique play on several occasions and they love to pass and play the ball around, with a well-organized defense,” he noted.

Coach Akonnor was however quick to add that the most important thing is not about the number of goals, as many Ghanaians are calling for, but a win.

Ghana beat Mozambique by a goal to nil in an African cup qualifier in 1999 at the Accra Sports stadium.

Ghana will play the Mamba’s at the Accra Sports Stadium on 24th March, 2016 at the Accra Sports stadium for the first leg of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers with the return leg in Maputo scheduled to come off in three days’ time.
