Most Ghanaians back decision to axe Muntari

The vast majority of Ghanaians are backing the decision to axe Sulley Muntari from the Black Stars for the African Cup of Nations, a survey has revealed.

Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac left out the Italy-based player for next month's tournament in Angola on disciplinary grounds.

A Ghanasoccernet survey carried out in Accra and Kumasi on Friday revealed that 86 per cent backed the decision by the Serbian to drop Muntari.

11 per cent were against the move while 3% were undecided on the decision to leave out the Inter Milan enforcer.

Radio phone-ins on sports programmes on Joy FM, Citi FM, Oman FM and Asempa FM in Accra showed that Ghanaians were supportive of the move to sack Muntari.

A caller to Joy FM's sports programme said: "We prefer to lose the African Cup of Nations than to take Sulley Muntari there to be indisciplined.

"If he doesn't understand this decision then we pray he is dropped for the World Cup too."

Kumasi radio stations also mirrored a similar trend in Accra as callers to Angel FM and Kessben FM programmes lashed out at the Inter Milan player.

Social networking websites including Facebook were also abuzz with discussions on Muntari's axing but the vast majortiy of Ghanaians there were supportive of the move.

Muntari was expected to play a key part in the tournament but after snubbing a meeting with coach Milovan Rajevac over his disruptive behaviour just last week, Muntari put the nail on his own coffin.

The Serbian manager arrived in Milan last week to attempt to rein Muntari in over his recent indiscipline in camp, the midfielder told the coach he is too busy to attend the meeting.

Rajevac stayed in Milan for two days and attempts to convince Muntari to turn up for the meeting fell on deaf ears which prompted the Serbian to axe him from the squad.

But this is about the fifth time this year that Muntari has openly disobeyed the authorities and flouted national team camping rules.
