Green Grass Technology (GGT), a company specialize in delivering natural grass fields that meet the high standards demanded by professional sports governing bodies has revealed they owed huge amounts by the government of Ghana.

GGT in preparation for the then-upcoming 2008 Africa Cup of Nations put in a bid to maintain the pitches after the tournament and was awarded by the Government of Ghana Department of Education Science & Sports, the proposal also included an embark and ambitious programme to develop sporting facilities that will become a lasting legacy for the nation.

Notably, among the lots are the Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale sports stadium and the various training pitches that were built at some selected senior high schools across the country.

Managing Director of GGT, Frank Boahene in an interview with Boss 93.7 FM in Kumasi revealed the sports ministry’s inability to settle debt owed and efforts to claim that money only keeps dragging on.

“The government of Ghana has been indebted to us (Green Grass Technology) since 2012 and with the appointment of a new minister (Nii Lantey Vanderpuije) we hope to continue negotiations with him as previous dealings with former Sports minister, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed ended inconclusively.”

Yes! the country is going through some financial challenges but we have made in-roads with the previous minister. We had an arrangement for part if not all that the ministry is owing us to be paid. We hope to finalise that part with the new minister and we hope with the invoices at the ministry, money owed we can be sorted out,” he added.

The Accra sports stadium playing surface currently is in a bad state and appears more of a ‘potato field’ than a football playing surface.
