Minister urges Maidens to aim at ultimate

Accra, July 9, GNA - The Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Professor Dominic Fobih has urged the national U-17 female team, the Black Maidens to go for the ultimate during the FIFA U-17 World Cup in New Zealand later in the year. "I urge you to go for the ultimate during the World Cup. Your victory over Cameroon gives enough hope that you will deliver." Prof. Fobih told the team when they visited him on Wednesday after their shocking 2-1 victory over Cameroon on Saturday, which earned them a ticket to the global championships.

The Minister emphasized the team's positive character that saw them sail through at a time when everyone had lost hope saying it is a testimony of what to expect at the World Cup. He assured the team of his Ministry's support towards their preparations for the tournament fixed from October 28 to November 16. Prof. Fobih said the team will be specially rewarded if they lift the trophy with a promise of scholarships to the members who are dominated by Junior High School graduates.

Ghana is pitched in Group B alongside Germany, Korea and a yet to be determined opponent from the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Football Association (CONCACAF) for the three week fiesta. Captain Mercy Myles assured of the team's determination to return with a medal. The Maidens and the Flamingos of Nigeria will represent Africa at the maiden female U-17 World Cup tournament. 09 July 08
