Minister donates sports kits to RTU

Tamale, July 30, GNA – Hajia Hawawu Boya Gariba, Deputy Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs has presented sports kits to Real Tamale United (RTU) to help in its efforts to get back into the Ghana Premier League.

The Deputy Minister presented the items, which included two sets of jerseys and footballs to Abu Nurudeen, Chief Executive Officer of RTU at its training park in Tamale over the weekend.

RTU, a former Premier League club side based in Tamale, the Club, which is considered as the 'Pride of the North, was relegated from the Ghana Premier League in the 2010/2011 season, and it is now battling to get back into the elite division.

The Club meanwhile has won a place in the Middle League.

Hajia Boya Gariba said getting relegated from the league, though painful, was an opportunity to learn from past mistakes and for all stakeholders to work hard for future laurels.

She said her donation was a dedication to the memory of the late President, John Evans Atta Mills, who was also a sportsman.

Hajia Boya Gariba, who has also filed her nomination to contest the Sagnarigu North Constituency of Tamale Parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress slated for August 5, 2012, used the opportunity to call on delegates to support her candidature.

Nurudeen expressed gratitude for the donation, saying it would go a long way in helping the Club in it’s efforts at excelling in the Middle League.

He wished the Deputy Minister well in her political endeavour and called on other well wishers to come to the support of the Club to enable it qualify once again to the elite division to also help unite the peoples of the three regions in the North.
