He may be largely unknown by his countrymen but 19 year old Michael Tawiah has vowed to also raise high the flag of Ghana in Europe with his football skills.

Tawiah left the country at the beginning of the season having only play Third Division football with Tema-based side Ambah FC, signing for Lokomotiv Mezdra in Bulgaria’s top flight league.

10 appearances and one goal in the first half of the season and subsequent awarding as Mezdra’s best player caught the attention of Bulgarian giants Levski Sofia who snatched the young forward in the January transfer window on a two and half years contract.

Tawiah however has found it very difficult to break into the Levski line-up and made his only appearance for the club on the final Match Day of the season.

The Ghanaian youngster came on with 13 minutes left of the season to aid Sofia’s 2-0 success over Sliven which clinched third place and Europa League qualification.

“Everyone want to move forward and Levski is a far bigger club than Mezdra and I don’t regret joining them even though I’ve not played much.

"The supporters are asking why I’m not playing because they see how good I am in training. Hopefully things will get better next season,” he told SportsInGhana.com from Bulgaria via phone.

Tawiah was attacked, beaten and robbed outside his home by assailants believed to be rival fans after the Sofia derby between Levski and CSKA on March 27 2010.

He had his phone, money, watch and keys stolen. It was a bitter experience but the player hopes it will not happen again.

“Rivalries between clubs exists everywhere but as a foreign player I have to be careful so maybe I will have to make security arrangements next time we play against CSKA,” Tawiah told SportsInGhana.com.
