Meteors Pip Benin

Former Liberty Professionals Technical Director, Jones Attuquayefio now managing the national team of the Republic of Benin, had his boys take an early laugh, but it was the Meteors who prevailed with the best laugh last Friday when the homesters pipped the Beninois 2:1 in a friendly international at the Accra Stadium.

The two sides had laboured on in the not too fantastic game for 40 minutes when the visitors hit the back of the Meteors net through Ahoueya Jocelyn who connected a cross from the right.

Playing with the unimpressive Derek Boateng ahead of the Ghanaian attacking line, it was late in the second half, the 71st minute when William Tiero headed in the equaliser from a good cross from the right.

Tiero again scored in the 87th minute after breaking loose from a well centred pass which saw the Beninois scampering for cover from a shady offside trap. Before the first goal, Paa Joe Kumah came close in the 14th minute but from close range he shot wide with his left. In the 54th minute, Joe Tagoe hit the post in a beautiful effort while the rebound was scuttled to safety.
