May 9 Surviving Victims To Be Paid

The Ministry of Information and Presidential Affairs is expecting the disbursement of funds for surviving victims of the May 9 Accra Sports Stadium Disaster, to take-off by middle of September this year.

This follows the receipt of reports by the Ministry, from medical Doctors who attended to the injured victims during the disaster, at the Ridge, Korle-Bu and the 37 Military Hospitals. The Special Assistant to the sector Minister, Mr Ferdinand Ayim disclosed this in an interview with Peace FM in Accra Tuesday. Mr Ayim said the amount to be paid to the victims, ranges from ?1 million and above, according to the various degrees of injury they sustained in the disaster.

He however stressed that, the monies shall not be paid to relatives of surviving victims, but they would be directly paid to the victims themselves. He indicated that, all medical expenses of the victims have already been borne by the government.
