Match commissioners warned

THE Executive Council of the Ghana National Association of Match Commissioners (GNAMCO) has warned its members to desist from malpractices in the exercise of their duties.

The association says it will expel any member found to have misconducted himself in the course of discharging his duty as a match commissioner.

The association was reacting to certain occurrences on the local soccer scene.A release issued by the chairman of the association, Mr J. A. Owusu, said the association “shall always encourage the GFA to use a few honest, dedicated and hardworking officials, in order to bring sanity into officiating in Ghana football”.

The release recalled the controversial Charles Taylor yellow card affair which ended in indefinite suspensions to the referee in the centre of the affair as well as the match commissioner.

It said while the association was appalled by the behaviour of the personalities involved, it failed to comment on it in order not to influence the judgement of the FA’s Disciplinary Committee, and also because the incident was not formally reported to the executive body of the association.

The statement assured the GFA and the public that the association is capable of meeting the challenges of the times to ensure a successful season. It said any club official who approaches any match commissioner for any favour will be exposed.
