Makola Youth win AIDS Gala competition

Accra, Aug. 7, GNA - Makola Youth defeated Nguan Limann 7-6 on penalties to win the Nmenmeete Electoral Area HIV/AIDS Awareness football gala competition played at Laterbiorkoshie in Accra on Sunday. The game which failed to produce a winner at the end of the stipulated time saw the champions scoring seven of the penalty kicks as against six by their opponents.

On their way to the finals, Nguan Limann edged out Sikopaa 4-3 on penalties while Makola Youth also eliminated All Stars 1-0. Sikopaa took the third position by beating All Stars 2-0 in the event which had 16 clubs from the electoral area in the Ablekuma Central Constituency of the Greater Accra Region participating.

The gala was organised by Janok Foundation and jointly sponsored by Shell Ghana Limited and Great Lamptey-Mills Institute. Miss Janet Amerley Oku, Assembly Woman for the electoral area praised the participants for their show of good sportsmanship during the competition.

Miss Oku, who is also the Executive Director of the Janok Foundation, said her outfit organised the event as a way of contributing to sports development in the community and also to raise the awareness of the people about the dreadful disease.

She therefore urged especially the youth to be mindful of the disease and asked them to abstain from premarital sex and lead healthy live styles.
