Mahalla Fans Call For Coach’s Dismissal

Three goals up in 46 minutes was convincing enough for the Egyptian soccer fans to believe that, Ghazel El Mahalla were close to securing a semi final berth with 44 minutes of the 2nd leg quarterfinal game against Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Al Kodoba stadium last Saturday.

But after 92 minutes of soccer, the scoreline stood at Mahalla 4, Asante Kotoko 2. Immediately after the game, soccer fans in Egypt who had been monitoring proceedings blamed their defeat on their technical team claiming, the team could have advanced to the semifinal if former coach, Farouk Gaafer was in charge.

Some believe that, the club can boast of good players but not a good coach in the person of Mokhtar Mokhtar. Mahalla’s coach, Mokhtar Mokhtar, is been blamed for playing too defensive during the first leg in Kumasi, which ended three nil in favour of the Ghanaians.

Many argue that, Mokhtar should be fired after they succeeded going up three nil only for the game to end 4-2. They also accused the Mahalla team for failing to lift up their game during the first leg in Kumasi and leaving their defence open in the second half of last Saturday’s game.

Though they admitted defeat, some Egyptian fans said this was the worse Kumasi Asante Kotoko team that they had ever seen after going down three nil 46 minutes into such a crucial encounter.
