Magic six @ Baba Yara

The Black Stars of Ghana exhibited undoubtedly their best performance in four years to smoke out six goals from the Pharaoh’s of Egypt in their 2014 World Cup qualifier in front of a parked and colorful crowd at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The Black Stars took the game to their opponent right from the blast of the referee’s whistle but Captain Asamoah Gyan missed a glorious chance that came his way in the first minute when Majeed Waris set him through.

It took only the 5th minutes for the Black Stars to set the Stadium alive when Ghana’s leading marksman Asamoah Gyan capitalized on strike partner, Majeed Waris’ through ball in the eighteen to beat Egyptian goalie Sherif Ekramy to his right.

Michael Essien made it two in the 21st minutes from a solo effort. In the 40th minutes however, Mohammed Aboutrika pulled one back for the Egyptian’s from the spot after center back, Rashid Sumaila had brought down Mohammed Salah in the eighteen.

Majeed Waris header from Sulley Ali Muntari’s free kick in the 44th minutes made it three for Ghana to set the stadium agog again after Aboutrika’s goal had almost silence the parked stadium.

As many where expecting a competitive second half the Stars proved all and sundry wrong as they added three more goals through Asamoah Gyan (52), Sulley Muntari (70) and substitute Christian Atsu in the 88th minutes.

With five goals advantage ahead of the second leg Ghanaian’s can start preparations for Brazil as no miracle can save Egypt from overturning the verdict of Baba Yara.
