MTN set to renew Kotoko deal

Telecommunication giants, MTN will soon renew ties with Asante Kotoko as their contract as title sponsors of the club runs out by close of season, the club’s Executive Chairman Dr. KK Sarpong has revealed.

On January 12, 2011, both parties announced their renewed relationship after a previous one which had spanned for 7 years between 2001 and 2008.

MTN signed a two-and-half year sponsorship agreement with Kumasi Asante Kotoko to the tune of GHS1,050,000 annually.

The chunk of the GHS2,850,000 sponsorship package was committed to player bonuses and salaries as well as administrative cost, this the club’s chairman has hailed the efforts of the telecommunication giants in their support for Kotoko and believes the benefits from the relationship has been mutual as he reveals talks are far advanced for an extension.

“When I came on board, we had issues with funds regarding payment of bonuses and salaries but the return of MTN as our sponsors helped lessen our burdens. We are in a positive renewal talks as the deal expires soon,” Dr. Sarpong said.

FootyGhana understands both parties are in talks over a three-year extension, details of which could soon be made known to the public.
